New Bike/Ped Path Across Little Bay is Open!

The new path provides a safe route for bicycles and pedestrians across Little Bay, between Dover and Newington/Portsmouth.

This temporary Bike/Pedestrian pathway was constructed in response to many years of advocacy by SABR members to maintain bike/ped access during the reconstruction of the General Sullivan Bridge. NHDOT originally proposed a shuttle service, which SABR vehemently opposed. The emergency closure of the General Sullivan Bridge in September of 2018 necessitated NHDOT to develop a solution sooner than anticipated.

Access to the pathway from the Newington side is located on Shattuck Way, just south of Rockingham Electric. Access from the Dover side is located directly across from the easterly Hilton Park entrance.

Motor Vehicles are not permitted on the new pathway.

The work was completed by Severino Trucking Company, Inc. of Candia New Hampshire in conjunction with the Newington-Dover 11238Q project.

A BIG THANK YOU to all bicyclists who turned out for NHDOT meetings to make this a reality!
