There are two motions on the agenda involving the Middle Street Bike Lanes.
Councilor Huda has a motion to “move the parking of vehicles back to the curb in Middle Street Bike Lanes immediately for safety of all in lieu of the recent accident“. SABR strongly advises against this action. It would make the corridor less safe for cyclists AND drivers. The current report from the city lays this out. The number of crashes is less than half compared to the time prior to the bike lane installation.
Councilor Tabor has a motion to “approve the creation of a citizen task force to answer the question: “How can we make Middle Street a bicycle-pedestrian-vehicle boulevard that works for everyone and enchances the city?”” This appears to be the best path forward.
Send councilors your messages (by noon to get it on the meeting’s record) and or join the meeting via zoom and make your comment that way. Instructions to join the meeting are in the meeting agenda document. You can find it by following the link to city’s website.
