A Short Ride in Support of Complete Streets

April 10, 2021 @ 8:30 am 9:30 am

Portsmouth is fortunate to have a Complete Streets Policy which commits to “create safer, more accessible streets for all users,” including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit users of all ages and abilities.

After years of delay, one key connection in the city’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, Peverly Hill Road, was moving toward final design and construction this week.

Unexpectedly the city council voted to throw out the preliminary designs, which included a wide multi-use path and sidewalk, and consider a new design with just sidewalks and no bike accommodations whatsoever.

This is wholly inappropriate for a road with this volume of cars and trucks that connects so many important destinations, like the NH Seacoast Greenway, Pease, and ocean routes.

Please join us this Saturday, April 10th for an informal bike ride on Peverly Hill Road, and for conversation.

Meet at 8:30 at the Yokens Plaza on Route 1, or at 9:00 at the Plains Ballfield Playground. Feel free to continue your own rides from there.
